Short answer
Yes: unlimited quick searches free, with daily limits on the power tools
The free plan gives you unlimited quick searches with citations, plus limited Pro Search and Deep Research, about 3 file uploads a day, Spaces, voice, Discover and the free Comet browser. You can use it without an account. Perplexity no longer publishes exact free limits; its pricing page describes the free plan as good for “limited daily usage”. Model choice, Labs and Perplexity Computer need a paid plan.

Perplexity “does not publish exact daily or weekly numbers for the free plan anymore” (Free Academy, Sept 2026). Its older FAQ listed up to 5 Pro Searches a day (source), some 2026 reviews report 3 (source), and the upload FAQ lists 3 files a day (source). The app tells you when you’re near a limit. Model access from Perplexity’s models article.
Is the free plan enough for you?
Set what a typical day looks like. We compare it with reported free limits (Pro Search ≈ 3–5, uploads ≈ 3, Deep Research ≈ 1). A rough guide, not official numbers.

FAQ
Is Perplexity free? Questions
Is Perplexity AI really free?
Yes. Perplexity has a free plan with unlimited quick searches and cited answers. Some features, such as Pro Search, Deep Research and file uploads, have daily limits on the free plan, and others, like model choice, Labs and Perplexity Computer, need a paid plan.
Do I need an account to use Perplexity for free?
No. You can ask questions without signing in. A free account saves your history to your Library and lets you use Spaces and keep settings across devices.
How many Pro Searches do I get free?
Perplexity no longer publishes an exact number. Its older FAQ said up to 5 a day, and some 2026 reviews report 3. The app tells you when you’re running low.
Is Deep Research free on Perplexity?
Yes, with a limit. Free users get a limited number of Deep Research reports; Pro and Max get much more.
How many files can I upload for free?
Perplexity’s FAQ says free users can upload up to 3 files a day, up to 25 MB each.
Can I get Perplexity Pro for free?
Sometimes, through partner offers. In 2026, guides list Pro free for US government employees and a 3-month offer with some Motorola phones, plus 50% off for verified students and educators. Many earlier offers (PayPal, Xfinity, telecom deals) have ended. Only claim offers through official Perplexity or partner pages.
Is the Comet browser free?
Yes. Comet is free for everyone. Since late August 2026, its assistant’s browser-control feature uses Perplexity Computer credits.
Is the free plan good enough?
For everyday questions, news and quick research, yes. If you run several hard comparisons or reports a day, or need model choice and Labs, Pro is worth considering. Use the checker on this page.
