Is Perplexity better than Claude?

They’re built for different jobs. Perplexity is better for quick, cited answers from the live web, news and research. Claude is better for writing, editing, analysing long documents and coding. Many people use Perplexity to gather sources and Claude to write from them.

Can Claude search the web like Perplexity?

Yes. Claude can search the web on all plans and cites the pages it uses. The difference is that Perplexity searches for every question by default, while Claude decides when to search or searches when you ask.

Is Perplexity Pro or Claude Pro better value?

Both cost $20 a month (Claude Pro is $17 a month billed yearly). Perplexity Pro is better value for research and lets you choose models from several companies. Claude Pro is better value for writing, long documents and coding, and includes Claude Code.

Can I use Claude inside Perplexity?

Perplexity’s paid plans let you choose from models made by several companies, and Anthropic’s Claude models have been among the options. You get Perplexity’s search and citations with Claude’s writing style, but not Claude’s own features such as Projects or Claude Code. Check Perplexity’s model picker for the current list.

Which is more accurate?

There’s no head-to-head independent study of the two that we can cite. Perplexity had the lowest citation error rate (37%) of eight AI search tools in the Tow Center’s 2025 test, which didn’t include Claude. Both can make mistakes, so check sources for anything important.

Which is better for students?

Perplexity is great for finding and citing sources quickly; Claude is great for understanding difficult material and getting feedback on your writing. Use both responsibly and follow your school’s rules on AI.

Do Perplexity and Claude have free plans?
