The iPhone/iPad app needs iOS or iPadOS 18+ and the Mac app needs macOS 15+. Free up storage, restart, and install only from the App Store, Google Play, Microsoft Store or perplexity.ai. If your device can’t run the app, perplexity.ai works in any modern browser.

- Check your version: Settings › General › About. Update to iOS/iPadOS 18 or later in Settings › General › Software Update.
- Free up storage: the app is around 190 MB, and updates need extra space. Settings › General › iPhone Storage.
- If the download is stuck on “Waiting”, tap the icon to pause, tap again to resume, or restart your phone.
- Sign out of and back into the App Store (Settings › your name › Media & Purchases).
- Check Screen Time isn’t blocking app installs: Settings › Screen Time › Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Can’t find it? Your Apple Account region may differ; use perplexity.ai in Safari meanwhile.
Common messages
- “Not compatible with this device”: Your iOS version is below 18, or the device can’t update. Use perplexity.ai in Safari.
- “Not available in your country or region”: The app may not be offered in your Apple Account’s region. Use the website.

- Free up storage, then retry. Settings › Storage.
- If it’s stuck on “Pending”, check other downloads or updates aren’t queued in Play Store › Manage apps.
- Clear the Play Store cache: Settings › Apps › Google Play Store › Storage › Clear cache.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data; check “Download preferences” in Play Store settings.
- Restart your phone and update Android (Settings › System › Software update).
- Using a work or school phone? An admin policy may block installs.
Common messages
- “Your device isn’t compatible with this version”: Your Android version or device may be too old. Update Android if possible, or use perplexity.ai in Chrome.
- “This item isn’t available in your country”: Use the website instead. Don’t install APK files from other sites.

- Check your version: Apple menu › About This Mac. The current app needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later.
- Open the downloaded file, then drag Perplexity into Applications.
- If macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, check it’s from Perplexity, then click Open.
- If it won’t open, check System Settings › Privacy & Security for a blocked-app message and choose Open Anyway only if it’s the official download.
- Remove the old Perplexity Mac app to avoid conflicts, then restart.
- Still failing? Re-download from perplexity.ai; the file may be incomplete.
Common messages
- “Requires a newer version of macOS”: Update to macOS 15 or later, or use perplexity.ai in your browser.
- App opens then quits: Delete both old and new apps, restart, and reinstall the latest download.

- Make sure you’re signed in to the Microsoft Store with a Microsoft account.
- Run Windows Update and restart (Settings › Windows Update).
- Reset the Store cache: press Win+R, type wsreset.exe and press Enter.
- Check date, time and region are set automatically (Settings › Time & language).
- Use Settings › Apps › Installed apps › Microsoft Store › Advanced options › Repair or Reset.
- Free up disk space and try again.

- Store download stuck or errors: Reset the Store (wsreset), check Windows Update and sign in again.
- “This app isn’t available for your device”: Your Windows version or region may not be supported; use perplexity.ai in Edge or Chrome.

- Check your system meets the requirements above.
- Download only from perplexity.ai/comet or the official app stores.
- On Windows, run the installer as a normal user and allow it through SmartScreen only if it’s from Perplexity.
- On Mac, drag Comet to Applications and open it from there.
- Antivirus or a work device policy may block browser installs; check with IT.
- Restart your computer and try the installer again.
Common messages
- Installer won’t run: Re-download the installer; check antivirus quarantine.
- Import from Chrome fails: Close Chrome first, then retry the import in Comet.

Avoid fake “Perplexity” apps and downloads
- Install only from the App Store, Google Play, Microsoft Store (ID 9P9XG917PWCJ) or perplexity.ai.
- Check the developer: Perplexity AI, Inc. (App Store) or PerplexityAI (Google Play).
- Skip APK files, “Pro unlocked” or “cracked” versions; they can contain malware.
- Never enter your Perplexity or payment details in an app you’re not sure about.

Why won’t the Perplexity app install?
The usual causes are an older operating system (the iPhone app needs iOS 18, the Mac app macOS 15), not enough storage, a stuck app-store download, a region restriction, or a device policy on work or school devices. Pick your device above for step-by-step fixes.
